It has a removable whistle, which came apart. I reassembled it and now it no longer whistles. Its interior has only a metal plate and a screw – did I loose a part?
Remove Whistle from Kettle
Fill the kettle with clean water
Replace Whistle
Place Kettle on Hob
Turn on heat to full
Stand back an wait
Once whistle screams turn off heat
Remove whistle
Pour BOILING water into appropriate container
Enjoy

lid isn’t on tight enough or there is a leak somewhere.

Take the whistle part off and put it in a glass of vinegar.
This will dissolve the crud that has probably blocked the whistle part. It happens a lot with hard water.
