Koi Pond Filtration in your fish shoal can make a big difference. It’s a valuable part of your garden pond and you may want to have this in your water garden.
Often, the cost of this garden device depends on the design and its configurations. Nevertheless, the koi pond filter along with the pump and the aerator is needed in your pond.
You can install this filters in different places in your fish shoal, so it wouldn’t be a problem with regards to preferences. You can place them within the garden or outside.
However you have to choose your devices wisely because each has their own advantages and restrictions.
One basic type of the koi pond filter is the basket filter. Depending on the design that you choose, you can place this underwater or at the pond surface. Pond filters work in a way when it forces the water through a net so it can capture big debris. After the filter do this, the water is recycled back to the pond.
You need the basket filter and its the most basic need of your pond. These garden apparatus, comes in different kinds, all of them with the same helpful feature to remove the trash. But you would have to devote a little time to clean the basket, for clogging happens. Do this in accordance to the specifications given by your pond supplier.
One improved version of filter I found in a garden store just recently is this thing they call UV filter. This device works so efficiently by specifically killing the little organisms and algae in the water. The UV filter proves true the saying that “sunlight is the best disinfectant.”
The pond filter exposes water quantities to the powerful UV rays which then neutralizes algae and small organisms that’s not good for your fish.
This type of pond filter does require cleaning. The UV bulb housing may become encrusted with grime after a time and this needs to be removed so that the maximum possible amount of UV light is delivered to the water that travels through the pump.
Small amounts of water would go in these pumps at some point. These are great enhancement, but they can’t handle great quantities of water, sufficient for the safety of the pond.
If you prefer a natural type, a bacterial garden pond filter can help you. The water gets purified from algae infections which the fish and pond inhabitants don’t want.
But you have to prime the pump. Seek the supplier’s instructions on how to prime the device. Usually it is re-primed on your first week of use, and in for intervals that follow.
Pollutants like “pond scum” and those unwanted algae never survive in water if you have bacterial filter in your pond. When you decide to switch to a particulate pond filter (basket filter), good possible results follows. You should try it.
Usually, bacterial filter works for a long time, sometimes taking a few months, just to clean the foul water that has accumulated in your pond. But install these pond filters before the problem of algae shows up. It saves you a lot of time, for algae puts out a mess once the plants starts to grow.
There will be a significant effect with regards to the volume of a pond in connection to results of the type of your filtration. So you have to become aware on the actions you will take.
One more reminder- never cut the corners where the pond filters will be placed. This is not good. Just find another area where you can place it.
These devices should also be able to filter at least half of the volume of water per hour. This is a standard but not a requirement.
Foresee the situation where you have to spend a little more money just to have an effective filtration technology. This is just a little sacrifice and it could go a long way.
You might feel this to be extravagant, but remember, this is the most effective way for your fish to remain healthy.
