Squats will also be a huge part of any athletes daily exercise if wanting to improve his or her jumping ability. Squats strengthens you quads, your buttocks, and relies heavily on your abdominal part to hold up. This is a training you can, if done correctly and cautiously, do explosively. But be aware, you should do this with care and don’t ever over do it. It could be dangerous. However, if someone has your spot, and you feel comfortable, then explode up in each repetition as this can improve you jumping ability a lot. But never extend your knees, always have them bent a little and never jump with the weights on your shoulders. This exercise alone can have good effects on your jumping ability and should be part of your toolkit of drills in the gym.

Toronto Blue Jays Get Future Speed.

Posted by admin on August 1st, 2010 and filed under Sports & Recreation | No Comments »

Anthony Goss is 19 now and was the second round pick for the Phillies in 2008. A speedster, Gose is now in Clearwater Florida in Advanced A ball. This summer he has hit 4 homeruns with a .263 batting average. He has stolen 36 bases and has 20 RBI.

In 418 bats this year, he has fanned one hundred and three times, not particularly a record which will get him to the majors. He will need to make improvements to that to join a major league club a couple of years down the road. His asset is his speed. He’s fast enough to play any center field in the majors if he is able to improve his offence, he could be a star player for years.

The cost which the Jays paid for Gose was their recently secured first base prospect Brett Wallace.

With Wallace gone to the Houston Astros, the Blue Jays have got a potential problem with first base. Lyle Overbay, their present first baseman is a free agent at the end of this season and may need to be replaced next year by Adam Lind, their present DH.

The next thing is to know exactly what you need to say no to in order to get whatever it is you want. For instance, if it is to improve your vertical, then you must jump rope every day and you can not eat chocolate chip cookies every day. Say no to hanging out with your friends. Not always of course, but never let it affect your training. You will be percieved as boring at first, but they will learn to adjust to your schedule. This is boring at first, but you have to do it. Next, stuff the fridge with all the right foods like chicken, tuna fish, turkey, salmon and other foods rich in protein. You also want to combine it with vegetables and carbohydrates like rice, potatoes or pasta. These are great for building a body that endures the strength required to jump really high.

So first you need to answer what exactly it is you want to become a better jumper!? Is it to be able to duck? Do you want to make the team? Do you play football, basketball or do you go out for high jump? Where are you at the present moment and where would you like to be in say six months? What are your long term goals? Are you aiming to go pro? These are some of the things you absolutely have to ask yourself in order to become great at jumping. Some of the jump-programs are awesome, but you can not stress your body. You ought to allow for at least twice as much time they promise in the ads. Why? Because your tendons will not be able to take the load if you apply too much pressure too fast.
