why is it recommended to put cold water in the coffee pot instead of hot water?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under hot water pot | 3 Comments »

I don’t know if this is true or not, but I was told that cold water makes better coffee. Something to do with the oil in the coffee not turning bitter when the water is gradually heated, the way that it does when it’s already hot.

which do u think would melt ice faster: A pot of hot water or a tub of warm water?

Posted by admin on May 25th, 2010 and filed under hot water pot | 1 Comment »

i saw this question in my earth science and thats all it said.

The answer will depend on the volumes of hot and warm water and the mass of the ice to be melted.

Certainly, the heat will transfer from hot water to ice more quickly than from just warm water. However, once the hot water cools to the same temperature as the warm water, the rate of heat transfer is the same. After that, if the smaller vessel becomes colder than the tub, the heat transfer will be slower.

Thus, the question needs to be more specific about the mass of the ice, the volumes of the pot and tub, and the temperatures of the water in the two vessels.

This is a very easy stew recipe which tastes good. You need 1 lb. beef stew meat, 1 pkg. frozen stew vegetables, 1 can (14.5 oz.) stewed tomatoes, 1 tablespoon beef bouillon powder dissolved in 1 cup hot water, and enough water to fill up the crock-pot. Add salt and pepper or seasoned salt as desired when serving.

Can chicken still be eaten safely if it’s gone from frozen to warm to hot in a crock pot with water?

Posted by admin on May 22nd, 2010 and filed under hot water pot | 10 Comments »

Here’s the situation: I put some frozen-solid chicken breasts (boneless) in the crock pot with some broth and a lot of water and spices. I did this at 12 noon, and accidentally set the crock pot to ‘warm’, not hot.

I realized my mistake 4 hours later, at 4:00, and changed the setting to HOT. So the chicken was frozen at 12, and sat for 12-4 on only the WARM setting. From 4 – 8, it’s been on HOT.

I’m curious if this chicken will be safe to eat, or if that’s a mistake?

I’m thinking about letting this run until 10-11 tonight on HOT, so that it would have been initially on warm from 12-4 then on HOT for 6-7 hours total. Will this be enough to kill off any bacteria and make the chicken safe?

I’m thinking yes, but I’d like to know others thoughts on this. Thanks!

Yes, it wll be OK. You should keep the hot food over 140F to prevent bacterial growth; cold at below 40F. I believe a crock pot on "warm" would exceed 140F. And I’ve used the setting many times with frozen chicken. 6-7 hours on HOT should kill ANYTHING! Don’t worry, when it’s done, put it in the refrigerator immediately. God Bless.

Which would melt more ice – a pot of hot water or a tub of warm water?

Posted by admin on May 15th, 2010 and filed under hot water pot | 2 Comments »

Why do you think so?
Yes, that’s why I asked it in the first place. This came out of my textbook, so it was the authors’ fault. Well, could you make like an assumption?

A tub of warm water.

Because of the greater volume of water, it has a greater capacity for heat storage. So even if the pot of hot water is warmer, it only has so much warmth to diffuse into the ice.
