Corningware Teapot P-104 on stovetop?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under electric teapots | 2 Comments »

Can an old Teapot P-104 be used on an electric stove top burner?

Yes, but not directly on the burners. The pot came with a thin wire star shaped trivet that you put under the teapot. Contact Corning on line to find out how to get one. I know my old Corning coffee pot was recalled, but the teapots are OK.

If you put the pot directly on the burner, you may risk cracking of either the pot or the burner.

KITCHEN FIRE… need some info?

so, i am house-sitting tonight and went to boil some water for tea. wasnt really thinking much, must’ve been a blonde moment, and put an electric cordless teapot on a electric stove. did quickly realize what i had done, partially b/c of the smoke that filled the kitchen.

i turned the stove off, opened door to porch, and turned on the fan above the microwave, airing kitchen out now.

now the smoke is contained to the kitchen, but i’m still a little worried, anything else i can do?

The only thing you can really do is to air out the place. You might be able to take the electric heating element out of the stove- some of them simply pull out. That will let you wash off the remnants of the plastic that melted on it, so that it doesn’t smoke and stink so badly the next time that burner is used.

You might mix up a mixture of baking soda and water- just enough to make a paste. Rub that on anything that has melted plastic or smoke marks on it, let it sit, then rinse it off. That will help pull the smell out.

Other than that- just fess up whenever the people get home. They ought to laugh it off as an honest mistake, and they’re going to find out anyway when they go looking for their teapot.

And don’t feel too badly- one of my friends did the *exact* same thing when she went to England, having never seen an electric kettle before.

Are we in Britain the highest tax payers in the world?

we get up in the morning head straight for the kettle (we paid vat on the kettle) switch it on (vat on electricity or gas) put the tea in the teapot (vat on teapot) get in the shower (vat on electric) put on our clothes (vat on clothes) get in the car (road tax or vehilce license) start the engine (vat on petrol and oil and servicing) go to work, collect our wages (income tax and National Insurance) walk to the bank in our boots (we paid vat on) pay wages into the bank (and pay income tax on our savings) pop to the pub (vat on a pint) while we wait for our chinese (vat on the takeaway) go home watch telly (having paid vat on the telly, paying vat on electric to run it and the t.v. license) we get into bed and read a book (subject to vat) using the lamp beside the bed (which we paid vat on and paying vat on electric to run it) lights out and sleep but even as we sleep we are paying tax as the hours tick by on the clock (we paid vat on and vat on electric to run it – vat on batteries)
we grow old having saved towards our pension (we continue to pay tax on these savings and pay income tax on our pensions) – Have I missed anything?
Actually I did miss something – how could I have missed the most dreaded tax of all – We get up in the morning to collect the post only to find the council tax needs paying for collecting our rubbish the day before!

Its true we do pay a lot of tax but if you want to live in any other civilised, developed country then you will have to pay tax….. I bet you will be the first to complain if you gas and electricity stopped working a couple of times a day like it does in Greece, or the roads need relaying like most of Europe, or the police were corrupt like most of the world….. i could go on but i feel it would fall on deaf ears.

My second attempt at a breakbeat song… Did better this time around, still not where I’d like to be in this genre.

Silent Flesh Century is an electronic/indie/metal project that I’ve been working on for a while now, just recently getting serious within the past year.

All guitar playing is done by myself and recorded through a Digitech RP250 effect pedal into Audacity via USB, and all other instrumentation/arrangement is done in FL Studio 8 XXL Producer Edition.

Is it necessary to descale an old-fashioned teapot?

Posted by admin on May 22nd, 2010 and filed under electric teapots | 1 Comment »

I searched the questions already answered and found instructions for descaling an electric kettle which has an element. But I use an old-style teapot, the kind with a handle which you just fill with water, place on the stove and wait for the whistle. Is it necessary to descale a teapot like that (which has no element)? If so, how?

You bet. This is what I’ve always done:

The first thing to do is to half fill the kettle with a 75/25 mixture of white vinegar and water. Allow it to sit over night. In the morning pour the vinegar mixture out, scrub the inside of the kettle with an old (clean) toothbrush an rinse again. Boil some water in it to get any remaining vinegar smell or taste out and it is sparking clean and ready to go.

GONG à la laiterie de Strasbourg le 3 novembre 2009

Morceaux: Oily Way

Now you’re here and now you’re Gong
Now you’re back where you belong
Meet the wizard of the keys
And he’ll reveal the mysteries
Of Angels’ Eggs and Octave Doctors
Radio Gnome and Love Projectors
Then he’ll point up in the sky
You will see the Teapots flying
Down the Oily Way…

Down the Oily Way you slide
Through the inner space you ride
Lots and lots of Pot-Head Pixies
Ridin’ round in Teapot Taxies
On the Planet Gong they say
If everything goes wrong today
Fill your Teapot up with tea
Come and take a ride with me
Down the oily way…

Oily Way
Oily Way – it’s not the milky way
Oily Way – it’s not the only way
Oily Way – it’s not the English way

Stop!
Wait!
Hey!
Look!

High in the sky, the world you remember
Scenes that we dreamed of
Time for the end of
Hate!
War!
Death!

You big daddy in your big sick city
Gotta choose to loose your games now

Now you’re here and now you’re Gong
But this ain’t me that sings this song
For we the Gong Band it’s enough
To be the instruments of love
On which the Octave Doctors play
That we be one and all as one with Gong
On earth and find again
The joys of going around the bend
Down the oily way

Oily Way
Oily Way – not the only way
Oily Way – it’s not the only way
Oily Way – it’s not the English way

Electric burner on stove…..
I accidentally left a teapot on my stove longer than necessary and some of the paint on the bottom of the kettle burned onto the electric burner. I can’t figure out how to get it off. Any suggestions or ideas??? Thanks!
