How does an electric shower work?

Posted by admin on May 12th, 2010 and filed under electric hot water pot | 15 Comments »

I have moved into an industrial space and it has no shower, and no running hot water (ie. no boiler). I use an industrial catering kettle for hot water when washing myself and the pots, but I need to install a shower.

Can I do it? Do electric showers heat the water from cold? Or do I need to pour the hot water from the catering kettle in to it somehow?

Would be grateful for any help
Vickezo – why would you think I was joking?!?

The reason I can’t install a boiler is simple – it would be very expensive and a big hassle, and I don’t intend to be here for ever. I am on a shorthold tenancy.

I was hoping the shower could be something I could do myself with very little hassle.
Squish: I am in the UK. In case you don’t know it, it’s that little Island off the West Coast of Russia.
Derek I: Nice try, but I have had a search, and it seems travel showers aren’t available in the UK. Unless anyone can tell me otherwise? I imagine it’s something to do with health & safety standards – but it’s a shame ’cause they seem good.

How to cook with very limited kitchen appliances?

Posted by admin on May 10th, 2010 and filed under electric hot water pot | 8 Comments »

I’m living in a dorm room and I cant have a microwave or any open flames. I can use an electric hot pot but I don’t think I could get away with an electric frying pan because the smoke would set off the fire alarms. What are some good things I can cook with just a hot pot? I saw a documentary on prisoners and they were cooking meats by putting them in a plastic bag in boiling water. Can you cook any meat like this?

lol … I love that you compared yourself to a prisoner:) … Maybe you could have a toaster oven there…then you might be able to do Hot Pockets, frozen pizza, etc. You could definitely cook hot dogs in boiling water, but check to see if other sausages are fully cooked before you try other sausages. … You could get one of those little pots that instantly heats water and make Cup of Noodles, Easy Mac, instant oatmeal, and a bunch things that just require boiling water….

I have a new electric hob with solid plates. There was an overflow from a pot, how do I clean it??

Posted by admin on May 7th, 2010 and filed under electric hot water pot | 1 Comment »

Basically, it was hot water boiling pasta with a bit of oil but the mess is horrid. Right in the centre, it’s no longer a red dot but a burn mark!

Leave it to soak in hot water+cleaning agent, washing up liquid or bleach. Then give it plenty of elbow grease and a good scrubing with a harsh cloth.
Or you could waste cash and buy a specialist oven hob cleaner from your supermarket.

Is it safe to boil water in an electric fryer? Is there any danger of electrocution?

Posted by admin on May 5th, 2010 and filed under electric hot water pot | 3 Comments »

I have a commercial electric fryer I want to use to boil water instead of using a pot and hot plate. Is this safe to do

It is totally safe. It is when you put a plugged in electrical thing into water that it is dangerous. Putting a liquid to be heated up in an electrical device that is designed for heating liquids is safe.

Zojirushi CD-JSC22 Hot-Water Dispensing Pot 2.2L

Posted by admin on May 5th, 2010 and filed under electric hot water pot | 9 Comments »

This is my new Zojirushi hot water dispensing pot. I love it! I’ve wanted one of these for ages. There was a larger size, but this smaller, 2.2 liter pot is just right for me. I put this 6-ounce teacup here for a size comparison. I know you can’t see how hot the water is, but it is hot! It has already boiled, and gone down a bit to settle at 208F. It will stay this way, 24/7, unless I change the temperature option or bring it to the boil again.
