when boiling a large pot of water?
… gas stove, electric water heater
a. putting cold tap water in the pan and heating on the stove til boiling
b. waiting for the tap water to get hot, then heating the rest of the way on the stove til boiling
thanks ![]()
It doesn’t matter. All the water that enters your house is the same temperature. It takes the same amount of BTUs to heat it to a given temperature no matter what appliance does the work.
http://www.ForkenSwift.com – Officially, we’re only at the battery rack building stage of the project. But while waiting to get a welder to finish the job, Spring Fever struck and against better judgment we piled 6 batteries into the car, hooked everything together and went up & down the street a bunch of times.
(Oh – and by the way, if you enjoy spotting continuity errors in movies, you’ll have a field day with this one!)
Again, apologies for the video quality – 20 year-old video camera, makeshift way of getting the pics into the computer for editing.
In case titles are hard to read, here they are:
1. a BIG ForkenSwift milestone
2. Officially… we’re at the stage of the project where we’re making battery racks.
3. The racks will hold four batteries up front, and four in the hatchback.
4. (Cardboard mockups – help figure out positioning and clearances.)
5. But while waiting for a welder to finish the trays… we got SPRING FEVER
6. and decided to “set up” (ahem) the car for a little test drive

Hi, I was trying to boil water last night on my electric stove. I remember commenting that it was taking longer than usual to boil – it was steaming like crazy but not boiling. Suddenly the water just exploded – and whatever water was left in the pot then began boiling happily away.
I’m assuming that somehow the water was superheated (which I know can happen in microwaves). But on a stovetop? What happened? How can I prevent this in the future?
For reference: I was using a stainless steel 2-quart pot, tap water, and an electric coil stovetop. Immediately before cooking, I had washed the pot with dish soap and a scrubby brush, rinsed well, and then filled with hot tap water.
That is a rare thing for sure. Too bad you didn’t get it on video! Most sites talk about it being impossible to happen on the stove.
I would suggest stirring the water occasionally and check for bubbles forming at the bottom of the pot. No bubbles = extreme caution.
umm my cousin is about 5-6 years old and she was playing around with the electric boiling pot. she got burned on both hands. As soon as her parents saw it they put ice on it. Then they brought her to the doctor said it is a second degree burn and they gave them some cream for it. WIthin a few hours blisters started to appear. Then they put aloe, and the cream that the doctor gave then on her hand. After a few days her sister popped her blister by accident. I want to know whould it leave a scar. And another thing her skin is wrinkly, I want to know would it stay like that, if it would stay like that what can they do to make it not wrinkly.
Be sure to keep the area clean, dry and apply anitbiotic oinment daily. Since she’s young if she has scaring it may be temporary as her skin is still growing and in a very supple state which helps to reduce the scaring. By the time she’s older any marks from this burn are likely to fade. Her parents need to be sure to take care not to allow the area to become infected.
Lack of maintenance and improper servicing of a kettle became a recipe for a disaster. The kettle exploded, injuring 3 workers and destroying a kitchen.

Several members have written about how to get the plastic taste out of electric drip coffee makers. We’ve tried Krups, Cuisinart, Braun and others. They all have plastic water tanks and coffee grind holders, and use plastic tubes to carry hot water. Does anyone know of an electric model that uses stainless steel mechanicals to avoid getting plastic in the coffee?
try Bunn. They have those commercial industrial type coffee makers. The ones you listed are mostly for personal use.
In this video, Betty makes her one-of-a-kind chili recipe. It is a favorite among friends and family, and it is unique!
Ingredients:
2 pounds lean ground beef (I use 4 % fat ground beef.)
(4) 15 oz. cans pinto beans
10 oz. can refried beans
8 oz. can tomato sauce (I only use 1/2 of the can)
2 medium to large raw onions
3 teaspoons finely-chopped canned (bottled) garlic
6 cups water (total)
4 tablespoons chili powder (I use 1 tablespoon of each of 4 different brands to get a nice blend.)
1 teaspoon cumin
1/4 cup brown sugar
In a *large* pot mix the 4 cans pinto beans, 1 can of refried beans, and 1/2 can tomato sauce. Add two cups water, stir, and put the pot on the stove over low heat. Keep stirring this mixture every few minutes. Meanwhile, in a deep skillet, brown the ground beef until crumbly (to your preferred size). Drain off any excess fat, but if you are using very lean beef, you won’t need to do this. Use a small electric kitchen chopper to chop the 2 onions to a nice size. You will need to peel, wash, and quarter them first. Add the 2 chopped onions, 2 teaspoons chopped garlic, 4 tablespoons chili powder and 1 teaspoon cumin to the skillet of ground beef. Cook over low heat for5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Now, pour the ground beef mixture into the bean mixture. Add 1/4 cup brown sugar and 2 more cups water to the chili mixture, and cook it over low heat for approximately 4 hours, stirring occasionally. Check the chili after about 2 hours of cooking, and you will probably need to add about 2 more cups of water to maintain the consistency (6 cups of water total). (If you are not able to stay home and babysit this chili, combine it in a crock pot, omit 2 of the cups of water, cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.) Taste the chili after about 2 hours of cooking to see if you want to adjust the flavor. You can add more of any of the ingredients, but in my taste test of this recipe, I left everything exactly as listed. I hope you will give this chili a chance–In my opinion it’s worth it!
Note: This recipe makes a lot of chili. If you don’t need all of it, you may freeze the leftover amount in a freezer container, and then get it out later, put it in a sauce pan along with some hot water, and cook until hot and bubbly–it’s just as good as the first time!

I put on three quarts to boil and a few minutes later all the water was gone because the burner got white hot at the end of the spiral and burned through my stainless steel pot. What would cause that to happen, and can I replace that burner element?
Thanks!
Are you asking about the burner on an electric range? If so, yes you can replace those, but I would check the wiring before replacing it. Something caused it to overheat. Maybe the switch that you control it with.
With the latest of the cold fronts to move through my neck of the woods, I awoke with yet another cold. Chills, the whole bit, so I am left to wonder, did the electric company go into some sort of shady dealings with God? Is he cutting them some sort of money deal? Because with chills on top of it actually being cold, I had my heater running full blast, my electric blanket pushed to full throttle, and my coffee pot making continuous amounts of hot water for tea this morning.
I smell a rat.
More like "in league with Satan"…
